Rider number #901, Arnold Staal, initially reported missing and the Dutch Federation (KNMV) promptly informed by the race directory that Staal had never reached the Bagnaria check point. The communication immediately triggered the expected protocol when cases of this kind occur. The search and rescue had started shortly after 8 pm on Tuesday. Unfortunately, his body was found dead seemingly upon a sudden illness.
