DAKAR Daily – STAGE 6 – It Was All About Pablo Quintanilla!

Dakar adventure resumed after a rest day from Arequipa and bike category was to run 501 KM road section followed by a 317 KM competitive mileage, some 837 KM in total for the day back to San Juan de Marcona.

Husqvarna’s Pablo Quintanilla (CHL) clinched his first stage win of the rally by 01′ 52” clear from Honda’s Kevin Benavides (ARG) who finished the day with P2. That performance put Quintanilla back on the top of general classification by 04′ 38” ahead of Ricky Brabec (USA-Honda) who can only finish the day 6th fastest.

KTM’s Sam Sunderland (GB) had a real good start and was on a flyer till he got a rear brake problem after which he had to remove the calliper and continued only depending to front brake. That caused him to drop to 7th overall by some 20′ away from the lead.

Matthias Walkner (AUT) seemed recovered enough from his ankle injury during the rest day enough to finish 3rd fastest.
